Kanha Tiger reserve introduction

Kanha Tiger reserve is one of the largest national park in Madhya pradesh. It is a home to big amount of carnivores and herbivorus animals and tourists can witness the multiple species of wild animals here. Kanha national park spread about 950 sq kms (Core area) and more than 1000 sq kms of buffer zone. British had declared it the forest reserve in 1879 and approx 70 year after in 1955 it was considered as national park.

Fauna and Flora

Kanha national park consists of three type of forests mainly which are sal forest, moist mixed forest and dry deciduous forest. It has more than 500 species of flowering plants. Thus, it is famous for Tiger but besides, there are many other mammals in Kanha national park. These are Panther, sambhar deer, chital, black duck, barking deer, bison, boar, jackal and many more.

It also has around more than 300 species of bird including migratory birds. And, is a famous place for reptiles including Python, Russell’s viper, Monitor lizard, Garden lizard etc.

Best time to visit is from October to June every year.

Kanha safari zones are Kanha, Kisli, Mukki and Sarhi (These are core areas of Kanha national park). Similarly, the buffer zones are Khatia, Khapa, Sijora and Phen.

Weather remains cold during the month of December, January and February.

March to June are the summer period of Kanha and July to September is the rainy period.

The national park does not remain open from 1st July to 14th of October every year due to rainy season. In other words, forest department does not allow safaris during monsoon.

Accommodation – There are several budget to 5 star category of hotels and resorts available near to entry gate of respective safari zones.
